Taking Courses From Coursera

Opportunity to Take Coursera Courses

Coursera is providing free licenses for MEF students. You will be able to take as many courses as you want and get official Coursera certification without any payment. Invitation to create Coursera accounts will be sent to your MEF emails. Registration for Coursera courses will be open until July 31st 2020. Any courses that you register for will be open until 30th September.

There are three options for you to use Coursera:

1.     For Your Personal Interest (You won't earn any credits)

You can do any courses you wish for your personal interest, but you will not earn credits for these. You can start these courses as soon as you receive your invitation details. You will receive official Coursera certification when you complete your courses.

Prep School students are NOT eligible for "Online Elective" option.

2.     As an Online Elective (You will earn Pass/Fail Grade)

To do this:

Students

  • will receive a list of Coursera courses from their department.
  • will send their preferred courses to the department. Department will decide which courses will be offered and determine a responsible instructor for each course.
  • Students will decide on a project together with the responsible instructor for each course they register.
  • will complete the Coursera course,
  • send the certificates to their responsible instructor,
  • complete the project set by their responsible instructor,
  • and gain ECTS credits – grades will be entered into SIS as pass/fail.

This will follow the system laid out for online electives: click here.

Prep School students are NOT eligible for "Replacement for a Faculty Course" option.

3.     As a Replacement for a Faculty Course (You will earn a letter grade)

To do this:

Students

  • will see the list of available Coursera courses and register via SIS during semester registration period.
  • will complete all assessments and projects given by the responsible Instructor from their department.
  • will complete the Coursera course.
  • send the certificates to their responsible instructor,
